Our Sedation Dentistry Options
Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is inhaled through the nose to induce a state of relaxation and reduce discomfort. The effect is temporary, and patients are able to drive, work, and play after leaving our office.
Oral sedatives are given the night before the procedure, to help you rest, and then again just before your appointment. They have a deeper effect than nitrous oxide. The effects also begin prior to the procedure and last for several hours afterwards. They are used on longer or more complicated procedures or for patients with more anxiety.
Intravenous sedation provides the deepest level of sedation, with the effects beginning at the start of the procedure and lasting for several hours afterwards. It is typically used to help extremely fearful patients, or for complicated surgical procedures, like multiple extractions or complicated wisdom tooth removals.
